Enfield CCG has recently appointed two new members to its Governing Body; a Secondary Care Specialist and a Lay Member for equalities and patient and public engagement appointed.

Governing Body Secondary Care Specialist appointed

Enfield CCG has appointed Dr Fawad Hussain to the position of Secondary Care Specialist to the Governing Body. The Secondary Care Specialist role brings a broader view on health and care issues, informed by their expertise and experience in planned and unplanned secondary care, tertiary services, and mental health.

Dr Hussain MBBS, MSc, FRCP is an experienced clinician and Consultant Dermatologist. He has been on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register for Dermatology since 2012. He gained his general medical experience whilst working in various hospitals throughout England and Scotland. He trained in Dermatology in Aberdeen, Scotland, where he gained comprehensive training in all aspects of general, paediatric and surgical dermatology. He was also an honorary lecturer for the University of Aberdeen. He has being working as Consultant Dermatologist at Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust since 2013 and is also currently the skin cancer lead for the department. He acted as clinical lead for dermatology from 2015 till 2018 and is currently the Associate Medical Director and Responsible Officer for the Trust.

Dr Hussain is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh since 2014, Royal College of Physicians of London since 2018, and Royal Society of Medicine since 2012. He is member of the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) since 2008 and also member of BAD’s Therapy and Guidelines Committee. Dr Hussain replaces Professor Robert Elkeles and commenced in the role from 2 January 2019.

Lay Member for equalities and patient and public engagement appointed

Enfield CCG has appointed a Lay Member for equalities and patient and public engagement on the Governing Body to lead and champion equalities and patient and public involvement in Enfield.

Kevin Sheridan, a resident of neighbouring Haringey, has successfully been appointed to the role and brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise. Kevin is currently a consultant in community engagement and development. Previously, he was Director of Community Engagement at the Institute for Health and Human Development (IHHD) at the University of East London for 11 years. While there he led on the development and implementation of community, public, user, and patient or stakeholder engagement for most IHHD projects. Kevin has also written articles and reports on community engagement. In 2015, he co-authored a systematic review on the ‘Barriers and Facilitators to Effective Community Engagement in Health’, which was used to develop the current National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidelines for Community Engagement.

The role of lay representative is responsible for ensuring that the Governing Body and the wider CCG acts in the best interests with regard to the health of the local population and that the CCG has appropriate arrangements in place to secure public and patient involvement. The Lay Member also acts as the CCG’s equality and diversity lead and chairs the Patient and Public Engagement Committee, a sub-committee of the CCG Governing Body.

Kevin formally commenced in the role from 2 January 2019 and replaces Teri Okoro, who completed her term on 31 December 2018. The term of office is for a three year period.
